Winner of the 1971 Tony Award for Best Musical, Company is a
passionate favorite of Sondheim fans. This bittersweet, clever
portrayal of five married couples—as seen through the eyes of
bachelor friend Robert—explores love and commitment, fear and
longing, and the simple joy of being alive.

It is always an enormous challenge to try to master the words
and music of a master. In this case Stephen Sondheim. Although I
performed three pieces from Sweeny Todd at the Hollywood Bowl
in 1998 (Patrick Stewart was the demon barber), I have never been in
a full production of a Sondheim show. Playing Joanne, the role so
indelibly owned by Elaine Stritch, is a thrilling challenge but
daunting none the less. "The Ladies who Lunch" has become
synonymous with Elaine. I went to her Broadway show Elaine
Stritch at Liberty the other night. She was supreme.
Extraordinary. I took the plunge and told her that I would need all
of her leonine courage to take on Joanne. She was wonderful, and as
she warmly embraced me she said "The song will carry you
through. Just be sure you never tell a lie when you are singing
it". Thank you Elaine. -- Lynn Redgrave, April 2002
